Trek Dirty to Me: 52 days until the mountain man life, and I'm taking a zero day.

February 09, 2020 by AJ Feeney-Ruiz in Appalachian Trail, Trek Dirty to Me, Projects

Maybe it was the pounding music from the clubs that surround my little refuge on Baga Beach, Goa. Maybe it was the random comedy sketch that I had to commit to writing at 3:30am to clear my mind. Maybe it is the enormity of everything left to do before I start thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail in 52 days. Whatever it is or was, I decided to take a zero day today.

I did no research. I ate a ton more cashews than normal. I took a real nap for the first time in maybe a month. I have at least one more week here in Goa and a few things that I want to do in the coming days in the area. It’s possible I stay a little longer, but in twenty days I will be on my way back to Indianapolis and the final month countdown kicks into gear.

So today, is a chill out day. Below is a far cuter picture of one member of a troop of gorillas I got to hang with in Rwanda - minus my bobble head. Enjoy your Sundays everyone!

Well, I certainly wasn’t expecting a global pandemic to shut down the world right before I was to set off on my Trek Dirty to Me project and my years-long planned 2,200 mile trek of the Appalachian Trail. But it did, and I could not have been luckier. What a ride these last three months have been!
